What’s In My Bag: Portugal Edition
Portugal in November is an absolute gem—fewer crowds, cooler weather, and plenty of stunning sights to take in. Over the years of traveling and advising clients through LVK Travel, I’ve fine-tuned my packing list for this lovely time of year. Here’s what I include in my suitcase for a 14-day Portuguese adventure, ensuring I’m prepared, organized, and comfortable wherever I go.
Compression Packing Cubes
These are lifesavers! Compression cubes keep everything compact and organized, letting me separate clothes by category. They reduce bulk, creating extra space in my suitcase, which is always a bonus for bringing back souvenirs. I prefer the mesh ones so I can easily see what I’ve packed. I recommend purchasing a pack that comes with a shoe bag to keep unlike items separate.
Crossbody Bag
Lisbon and Porto can get busy, so I bring a secure crossbody bag that keeps my essentials close. It’s compact, stylish, and lets me keep my valuables safe. I’m drawn to a sleek leather style tan or a nylon version in classic black, like the Lululemon Everyday Bag, that goes with any outfit while still offering practical features.
Handheld Steamer
For longer trips, I prefer this over a hotel iron. It’s compact, heats up quickly, and keeps my clothes wrinkle-free. The steamer I purchased comes in a sleek design and can steam both vertically and horizontally.
Melatonin
As someone who values a good night's sleep, I never travel without my melatonin. It helps me adjust to new time zones and ensures I get the rest I need after long travel days. I buy the chewable or gummies for a quick and tasty option, making it easier to relax after a busy day of exploration. Nature Made now offers a sugar free version!
Tripod & Ring Light
The photographer in me loves capturing every moment, and this lightweight setup is perfect for solo or group shots. The ring light is great for indoor shots and cloudy days, giving photos that extra polish. I appreciate options that are compact and easy to set up, preferably in a minimalist black to blend seamlessly with my gear. This option comes with a remote that’s helpful for solo travelers!
Cord Organizer
Between my phone, camera, portable charger, and laptop, I have quite a few cords to keep straight and the A type in me can’t deal! A simple cord organizer keeps them from getting tangled or lost in the bottom of my bag. I love one that has multiple pockets and is made of durable material, ideally in a chic black or navy to match my travel gear.
Walking Shoes
The Allbirds Tree Runners are my go-to for travel comfort. Not only are they lightweight, but they’re also breathable and super easy to pair with casual outfits. I’ll be doing lots of walking, and these shoes make it feel effortless. I love the neutral shades like cream or grey that match everything while providing comfort for long days of exploring. Reusable Water Bottle
Hydration is key, and having a refillable bottle saves both money and single-use plastic. Portugal’s water is safe to drink, so I can refill on the go. I love insulated bottles in bright colors or fun designs that keep my drinks cold and make a statement. My favorite version comes with alternating tops so you can switch from a screw cap to a spout lid for convenience.
Portable Power Bank & Adapter
From photos to navigating, I’m on my phone a lot during trips. A power bank keeps me charged up for the day so I never miss a moment. I prefer a sleek, slim design that easily fits in my pocket. An absolute must for staying powered up, a European adapter lets me charge all my devices without a hassle. I look for a compact design that accommodates multiple plugs and is easy to pack.
Packable Rainjacket & Umbrella
November weather in Portugal can be unpredictable, so I’m always prepared with a small, durable umbrella. It’s light, easy to slip into my day bag, and ready to save the day in a drizzle! I also pack a rain jacket that folds up small but keeps me dry. Essential for both city exploring and coastal walks, I opt for a lightweight style that’s breathable and available in cheerful colors like yellow or turquoise to combat gray skies.
Layering Sweater & Warm Scarf
Portugal’s November days can vary in temperature, so having a warm, packable sweater helps me stay comfortable without taking up too much room. I like mine in soft materials like merino wool or cotton, ideally in neutral tones or earthy colors that complement my wardrobe. I’ll accessorize with scarves in cozy materials like cashmere or wool, often choosing rich jewel tones to elevate my outfits.
